The SJCC HOPE project Coordinator- sarah karanja- Attended a three days workshop where The Provincial Health promoter was meeting with all the Distarict Health promoters and the key development partners that implement Health Promotion. The workshop was an eye opener in that it was made clear that the Ministry of Public health and Sanitation has Officers in each district who are coordination all health promotion activities. All implementing partners are expectyed to consult with the DHPO's (District Health Promotion Officer) before initiating any project and in the course of implementation.
We found out that DHPO's in Starehe,Kamukunji, Embakasi, Westlands and Langata had initiated the training of Schools on the Policy of School Health. Much of the trainings were done with the support from APHIA PLUS program. It was therefore evident that SJCC needs to collaborate closely with the provincial Health Promoting office in order to avoid duplication while filling in the implementation gaps.
SJCC was able to negotiate for a consultation with all the DHPO's in order to startegize on how the HOPE project will be integrated in their planning in order to facilitate the implementation of the school Health program. This consultation will be held at SJCC in Pumwani on 22nd February 2013. at 9.00 am. The aim of the consultation is to agree on Which Districts to prioritize; the training materials to be used and disseminated, the monitoring and evaluation system to be used, and when the trainings will be conducted in their respective Districts.
